Microplastic-induced alterations in growth and microecology of mulberry seedlings
Microplastics, emerging as pervasive environmental pollutants, have raised serious concerns regarding their impact on terrestrial ecosystems. In the case of mulberry seedlings, exposure to microplastics has been shown to significantly affect plant growth and the surrounding soil microecology. These synthetic particles can interfere with root development, nutrient uptake, and biomass accumulation. Moreover, microplastics alter the soil’s physical and chemical properties, disrupting the balance and diversity of soil microbial communities that are essential for plant health. The findings highlight the urgent need for deeper investigation into microplastic pollution in agricultural environments, especially given the economic and ecological importance of mulberry cultivation.
