Random root distribution affects the mechanical properties of the soil-root

Random root distribution significantly influences the mechanical behavior of soil-root composites. When roots are unevenly spread throughout the soil, they create localized zones of reinforcement that alter the stress distribution and shear strength of the soil. This irregular pattern can enhance the overall stability of the soil mass in some areas while leaving others less supported. As a result, understanding and accounting for root distribution is essential when assessing the reinforcing effect of vegetation on soil, particularly in slope stabilization and erosion control applications.
